Where children live significantly affect their chances for success in life, according to the analysis by the Editorial Projects in Education (EPE) Research Center, which based the analysis on its new “Chance-for-Success Index.” The index tracks state efforts to connect education from preschool through postsecondary education and training. The results are available in Quality Counts 2007: From Cradle to Career, Connecting American Education from Birth to Adulthood, produced by Education Week with support from the Pew Center on the States. The report is available online.

Pacific Southwest Research Station Wildland Recreation and Urban Cultures has posted a Recreation Research Update (January 2007 No. 59). Included in the PDF document is an article addressing how to include diverse publics in collaborative endeavors? 

Native Plant Conservation Initiative (NPCI) grants are available to fund native plant conservation projects on BLM lands or have relevance to BLM management. This would be a great way to involve schools in restoration and stewardship projects. 

The Minority Environmental Leadership Development Initiative (MELDI) is a project at the University of Michigan's School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE). The project aims to enhance the leadership and career development opportunities available to minority students and minority environmental professionals. The project seeks to provide information that will help more minority students embark on careers in the environmental field.

Teens for Planet Earth is an international program developed by the Education Division of the Wildlife Conservation Society at the Bronx Zoo to support teens as they develop and implement environmental service-learning projects in their local communities. Teens discover their conservation personality, decide which type of service-learning project they want to do, and then create an action plan to make it happen.
